Program Silverado Key Fob | Step-by-Step Guide

If Your Silverado Doesn't Have a Vehicle Information Center (pre-2007)
If you have a pre-2007 Silverado model without a Vehicle Information Center (VIC), you can still program your key fob using the following steps:
- Sit in the vehicle with all the doors closed and unlocked. Insert the key into the ignition. Do not turn the key until directed.
- Press and hold the Unlock button on the driver's side door. You will hear the locks make two clunking noises, indicating they have completed an unlock/lock cycle. Continue to hold down the Unlock button.
- While holding down the Unlock button, turn the key to the accessory power position then back to the off position. Repeat turning the key from the accessory power position to the off position for a total of two cycles.
- Release the Unlock button. Your Silverado will automatically cycle the locks as it did in Step 2.
- Simultaneously hold down the Lock and Unlock buttons on your fob for 15 seconds.
- Program any additional remotes by repeating Step 6 for each remote. Up to four remotes can be programmed.
- Exit programming mode by starting your Silverado. Turn off the vehicle and test your remotes.
If Your 2007-2010 Silverado Has a VIC - Vehicle Information Center
If your 2007-2010 Silverado has a Vehicle Information Center (VIC), you can program your key fob using the following steps:
- Sit in the vehicle with all the doors closed and unlocked. Start your Silverado and leave it in Park.
- Press and hold the Vehicle Information button, marked by an image of a car and the letter "i", until the display reads "Press V to Relearn Remote Key".
- Press the Set/Reset button until "Remote Key Learning Active" appears.
- Simultaneously press and hold the Lock and Unlock buttons for 15 seconds. A chime will sound indicating the remote has been successfully programmed.
- Program additional remotes by repeating Step 4 for each fob.
- Exit programming mode by turning off the vehicle and removing the key.
- Test your remote(s).
If Your 2007-2010 Silverado Doesn't Have a VIC - Vehicle Information System
If your 2007-2010 Silverado does not have a Vehicle Information System (VIC), you can program your key fob using the following steps:
- Sit in the vehicle with all the doors closed and unlocked. Turn the key to the Accessory Power position.
- Press the trip odometer meter reset stem repeatedly until you see "Relearn Remote Key".
- Press and hold the trip odometer meter stem for three seconds. The display will read "Key Learning Active".
- Simultaneously press and hold the Lock and Unlock buttons for 15 seconds. A chime will sound indicating the remote has been successfully programmed.
- Program additional remotes by repeating Step 4 for each fob.
- Exit programming mode by turning off the vehicle and removing the key.
- Test your remote(s).
If You Have a 2011-2014 Silverado
If you have a 2011-2014 Silverado, it is recommended to bring your vehicle into your local dealership to have your remote(s) programmed. If you are unsure, you can refer to your owner's manual for information on how to program your remote, which is located in the Driver's Information Center section.
