How To Connect Your Phone To OnStar?
Onstar is an excellent communication service that allows you to seek help immediately in the case of an emergency. So, if you get into an accident or your car suddenly breaks down in the middle of nowhere, you can easily reach out to Onstar using their hands-free calling feature. Once you contact them, you can rest assured that help is on the way.
However, as convenient as the service sounds, Onstar has discontinued its hands-free calling feature since February 2022. Instead, Onstar users are encouraged to connect their mobile phones to the system to make things more convenient. This will require you to pair your mobile phone to the Onstar system using the Bluetooth facility.
Does Bluetooth Paired Call Actually Work?
However, you'll be glad to know that Bluetooth-paired calls are quite efficient and fast and rarely showcase any issues. It works just as well as the original hands-free calling feature and is a great alternative for the latter. Like the original feature, you can still make calls without removing your hands from the steering wheel. The only drawback is that you might face issues while making international calls from the U.S.A to Canada.
Steps For Pairing Your Phone To Onstar
You can pair your mobile device with Onstar’s Bluetooth network in just a few simple steps. Read ahead to learn more.
Enable Onstar's Bluetooth
To access Onstar's Bluetooth functionality, you'll have to press and hold the 'Talk' button located on your car's steering wheel. Make sure to press the button for at least two to three seconds, and say the word ''Bluetooth''.
Ensure your voice is audible and loud enough for the Onstar system to detect the recent command. Barring any interruptions, the Onstar system should typically respond by saying 'Bluetooth Ready' and creating various tone sounds.
Initiate Pairing Process
The next step is to say the word 'Pair,' which should prompt the Onstar system to respond by saying something like, " Please start a search on your Bluetooth phone."
The system will also let you know your four-digit PIN, which you will need in order to pair your device, so make sure you note it down. If, by chance, you note down an incorrect PIN, you'll have to start the process again.
Enable Phone's Bluetooth
Next, go to your phone settings and enable the Bluetooth feature. Most phones will have a Bluetooth icon on the home page, allowing you to switch it on or off with a single tap, while some will make you find the Bluetooth mode on the phone settings page.
Pair With Onstar
Allow your phone to scan the area for Bluetooth devices and select your car's name for pairing. Your phone will now ask you for the four-digit PIN number that Onstar previously provided. Make sure you type the numbers exactly as it is without any issues.
The Onstar system will then ask you to name your cell phone device connection; simply type in whatever name you like. This will allow the Onstar system to confirm your phone's pairing. Now, you can make all the Bluetooth paired calls you need!
